Alleged illegal jet ski crossing into U.S. exposes 'holes' in border security: CBSA's union
While the search for a man who allegedly crossed the border illegally on a rented jet ski continues, some officials say the incident is exposing holes in Canada's border security. Sarnia police and its American counterparts are investigating after a Sea-Doo was recovered on the Michigan shore, after being rented by a Toronto man from a southwestern Ontario border city business. When the jet ski was not returned, a search was mounted and the jet ski found a few hours later. The man has still not been found. In a statement, Sarnia police said he remains outstanding in both Canada and the U.S. but " work is underway to apprehend him," and that the investigation is ongoing. Sarnia—Lambton— Bkejwanong MP Marilyn Gladu says more needs to be done to combat "porosity," at the border — noting that Sarnia does not have an RCMP office. "Really it's not ... patrolled formally," Gladu said. "You have the Coast Guard available if there's a concern expressed, but otherwise … we have to call London or Windsor to get any support from the RCMP. "We've had this concern for a while and both myself and [Sarnia mayor] Mayor Bradley have been calling on the government to address the porosity of the border here." In a Windsor stop on Tuesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said the border is short "thousands" of patrol officers and placed the blame on the previous federal government. In January, Ford's government launched Operation Deterrence, which saw hundreds of officers assigned to the borders. The province has also committed to buying the Windsor Police Service, among others, a helicopter for further surveillance. However, the premier added border patrol shouldn't be the responsibility of municipal or provincial police. Instead, he said it should rest with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). "We cannot have Windsor Police Service patrolling our borders, they have enough issues to take care of on the land," said Ford. Windsor harbourmaster says money, action needed to combat illegal border crossings 2 days ago While Gladu said she agrees with Ford, she also maintained any and all resources are needed. "All help that we can get is appreciated and more needs to be done." Border security has become a top issue since the re-election of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has made repeated comments about Canada's borders letting drugs and crime into his country — while also indicating a desire to annex Canada. In a bid to stave off tariffs in February, then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau committed to moving forward with a previously approved $1.3 billion border plan on border security and appointing Kevin Brosseau as the country's new fentanyl czar. The current federal government has also introduced the Strong Borders Act, which expands the powers of intelligence and security agencies. "This is essential to maintaining the safety and security of our country … it is also a priority that we share with our neighbours," said Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree when the bill was unveiled. But the president of the union representing CBSA workers says while they've been promised resources, they haven't seen much yet. Mark Weber of the Customs and Immigration Union says he wasn't surprised to hear about the Sarnia jet ski incident. "It is very commonly known," he said. "I think the issue of who takes care of things between ports of entry is a kind of a big blind spot right now that's completely left to the RCMP." Weber says if CBSA agents witness someone crossing the border illegally, they have to call the RCMP, despite having the same legal authority. "It makes no sense at all that we're not part of doing that work," Weber said. "We're not saying, we want to replace the RCMP or do all of that work. "It's a big border. It takes a lot of people and a lot of manpower to get that work done, but we want to be part of that solution." Staffing is a major concern, he said, with ports of crossings racking up virtually "unlimited" amounts of overtime. Weber says CBSA officers should be encouraged to tackle the issue of illegal crossings. Ride along with the RCMP to see how they're patrolling the Canada-U.S. border in new ways 5 months ago RCMP officers in the Windsor, Ont. detachment are patrolling the Canada-U.S. border in ways they've never done before ever since Donald Trump pushed for an increase in security between the neighbouring countries. In a statement, the RCMP said patrolling the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers is a joint effort between their officers and "federal, provincial and municipal" law enforcement partners. In Windsor, the RCMP maintains a Shiprider unit that does cross-border law enforcement alongside the U.S. coast Guard, OPP, Windsor police and Walpole Island First Nations police. That unit, a spokesperson said, works on activities including the illegal drug trade, migrant smuggling, firearms trafficking and terrorism — while also relying on its American partners for enforcement on the water.

Bianca Censori shares rare photo of husband Kanye West during what appears to be a romantic vacation following shock split rumours
Bianca Censori proved on Wednesday she and Kanye West are still going strong by sharing a photo of the US rapper enjoying a tropical vacation with her. The architect, 30, posted a photo to her Instagram Stories which showed the hitmaker, 48, sitting on a jet ski in crystal-clear water. A tropical mountain acted as the backdrop in the distance as Kanye faced away from the camera, seemingly looking down at something in his hands. Bianca could not be seen in the photo, but may have been the one taking it as it was posted to her social media account. It comes after reports emerged earlier this year the controversial couple had split. Kanye appeared to hint in March that he and Bianca parted ways when he leaked a new track titled Bianca—in which he alleged she ' tried to get him committed'. The album, which is titled WW3, has not yet been released, but DJ Akademiks—who recently conducted an interview with Kanye—also shared a sample of the song. The lyrics to the song were uploaded to Genius, and seemed to confirm the ongoing rumours at the time. However, it would seem the pair had never separated—or reunited after a brief split— as they have been seen together several times since. It comes after fans yet again expressed concerns for Bianca when she shared several images to Instagram on Tuesday which showed her standing in a bubble. She left little to the imagination as she struck a series of poses in a revealing silver leotard, which featured a plunging neckline and a pair of matching-coloured pumps. Many of her followers flocked to the comments to express their concern amid fears she is being 'controlled' by her husband Kanye. 'Is the bubble representing Kanye? The bubble looks a little suffocating,' one person commented. 'You're a beautiful woman and you can do better for yourself,' someone else urged. 'This dude got her out here looking like a clown,' another added, while one said: 'OMG please stop, you're ridiculous.' Concerns for Bianca's wellbeing have been raised several times since she married Kanye in 2022, with the architect often parading around in various states of undress. Kanye married Yeezy architect Bianca in January 2023 in what was thought to be a non-legal wedding as it appeared they did not file a marriage certificate. However in mid-October 2023, it was reported that they did in fact get legally married, per Us Weekly.

UPDATE: Teen fatally injured after being hit by jet ski on Elk River
Jul. 8—A 17-year-old girl from Tennessee was killed Monday after a jet ski struck her while she was swimming in the Elk River near the Clements area, according to Limestone County Coroner Mike West and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. West said he received a call at 1:43 p.m. and he drove to Athens-Limestone Hospital where the teenager had been admitted. He said she was declared dead about an hour later and her official cause of death was blunt force trauma. "She was in the water on a float and there was another person on a jet ski that was circling her and hit her accidentally," West said. "She was unconscious. They pulled her to the dock and when they got her out of the water, she was not responsive and didn't have a pulse. So then, they started CPR." According to ALEA, the girl fell off an inflatable tube being towed by an 11-foot Sea-Doo personal watercraft operated by another 17-year-old from Tennessee. After she fell from the tube, she was struck by a 10-foot Sea-Doo personal watercraft driven by a 48-year-old from Pulaski, Tennessee. West said Clements Volunteer Fire Department, Limestone County Sheriff's Office and Athens-Limestone Emergency Medical Services all responded to the scene on Bream Bluff Road. He said the Alabama Marine Police are investigating the case. Jet ski wrecks and fatalities are not something that happens often in Limestone County, according to West. "Usually it's kayakers," West said. — or 256-340-2442.

Husband held dying wife in arms after jet ski crash off Costa del Sol
The husband of a British grandmother who died after a fatal collision between her jet ski and a speedboat off the Costa del Sol said that he held his wife in his arms while she died. Debra Wright, 47, died on Saturday near Playa de Los Toros, in Manilva, Malaga. Paying tribute to his wife, Chris Wright described her as 'an amazing woman whose glow would fill any room' and 'one of a kind'. According to the Guardia Civil police force and local emergency services, Wright was a passenger on a jet ski steered by a British friend. They were part of a small group at sea when their jet ski was struck by the speedboat, which was reported to have been driven by another friend, at about 7pm on Saturday. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, Wright was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Wright, 52, who is chairman of Ashton Town Football Club, who play in the North West Counties Football League, said he was on the jet ski with her and 'swam to her to hold her in my arms until she passed away'. He said: 'My darling wife was a 47-year-old mother of four wonderful sons Stuart, Jack, Josh and Leon and a nanny to seven beautiful grandchildren. She was an incredible sister and doting daughter. 'She was our compass, the glue to bind the family. An amazing woman whose glow would fill any room. She was so enigmatic, inspirational and loving. Our family will never be the same.' The couple lived together in Standish, Wigan. Debra was the director of the family company, LRL Recruitment Wigan. Playa de Los Toros The club said in a statement: 'It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that on behalf of Ashton Town FC we announce the tragic death of Debra Wright, the wife of Chris our chairman, who was tragically killed while on holiday in Spain on Saturday evening. 'Our family are in mourning at this sad time and we ask for time for Chris and his family and everyone at the club to be able to start to come to terms with this tragedy. RIP Debra, fly high sweetheart x.' Wright was a teaching assistant at St James CE Primary School and lived in Manchester, according to her social media profiles. Her son Stu Mcdonald said in a post on Facebook: 'I'm so angry and upset, totally lost, I don't even know how to move forward without you. You are my Mum, my best friend, I wish I could swap places with you, if I could knowing you would be OK I would do it in a heartbeat. 'It would be impossible to thank you for everything you have done for us, you loved me when I couldn't love myself, you've backed me every step of the way. I really hope I made you just the tiniest bit proud.' Another son, Leon Wright, said: 'Mum you were one of a kind. Words can't describe how much I'm missing you right now. You was the life and soul of every party, I am so happy to be called your son and I couldn't have asked for anyone better to be my Mum. 'I just want to say thank you for all the great memories you have given me, thank you for all your support you have given me, thank you for all your love you have given and thank you for everything else that you have done for me. 'I will make sure Riley and Ava know how amazing their Nanny Deb was and they will never forget you.' Police investigations are said to have revealed that the speedboat driver tested positive for alcohol, although it was reported to be only a 'low' reading. He was detained on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and an alcohol‑related offence before being released under investigation. Investigators are focusing on whether a reckless manoeuvre or an abrupt turn by either vessel caused the collision. The Guardia Civil has formally transferred its case file to the judicial authorities, which will determine whether charges are pursued and whether custody is warranted. Fatal accidents involving jet skis and speedboats have marred recent summers along the Costa del Sol. In July last year a 32‑year‑old woman and a seven‑year‑old child died in separate jet ski incidents in Malaga. The authorities subsequently launched more patrols, using drones and unmarked boats to identify dangerous driving and enforce maritime law.
